Brief Bio of Amb Teshome Toga Chanaka,Commissioner of the National Rehabilitation Commission
Ambassador Teshome Toga Chanaka, Commissioner of the National Rehabilitation Commission(NRC), assumed office since January 2023. Before assuming this post, he served as Ambassador of Ethiopia to the People’s Republic of China from December 24, 2018- December 22, 2022.
He occupied senior leadership positions in the Federal government of Ethiopia including ministerial positions. He was Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture and also Minister of Public Enterprises.
Amb Teshome was elected representative, twice for South Nations, Nationalities and People’s Regional council and twice for the House of People’s Representatives. He is elected member of the 6th House of People’s Representatives. He served as Speaker of the House of the 3rd House of the People’s Representatives from 2005-2010.
Amb Teshome has long experience in diplomacy both at bilateral and multilateral levels. He represented his country in 6 countries and 3 continents Ghana, Egypt Kenya( Africa), France, Belgium( Europe) and in China( Asia) . While in Brussels, he was accredited to EU institutions.
He was PerReP of Ethiopia to UNEP, UN Habitat and UNESCO.
During his long experience, he presided over several international conferences including the 120th IPU General Conference, and chaired the 30th African Parliamentary Union. He participated in various international conferences and led delegations to IPU, APU, IPU IGAD, ACP-EU JPA.
