A Very Warm Welcome to the Official Page of the National Rehabilitation Commission

On behalf of my colleagues and on my own behalf, I  warmly welcome all our partners, stakeholders, the general public and friends  to the official web page of the National Rehabilitation Commission ( NRC). Mandated to carry out post-conflict disarmament, demobilisation and rehabilitation program( DDR) for ex-combatants,  the NRC was established by the Council of Ministers Regulation no. 525/2022 in Novemeber 2022. The Commission began to function as a federal institution with the appointment of the leadership in January 2023.

DDR is a critical component of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement(COHA) signed between the Government of Ethiopia(GOE) and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front( TPLF). The scope of mandate of the Commission is national. As such, it is tasked to undertake demobilisation and reintegration of ex-armed groups, who entered into agreements to cease hostilities, in other parts of the country.

To ensure permanent cessation of hostilities and sustain peace in the country, implementing successful  DDR is imperative. DDR program can only be successful if and when all stakeholders take active participation in  and contribute their fair share to  the execution  of this important element of the COHA. DDR is sensitive, complex and urgent, and hence I sincerely invite our partners, stakeholders and friends to join hands with NRC to effectively reintegrate ex combatants into their communities for a peaceful and productive life.  Let us encourage and support them to be forces for peace and prosperity.

Rehabilitation for sustainable Peace and Prosperity!
